Church Schools Admission Process
Many thanks for your interest in Christ Church Toxteth Park and in applying for a place for your child at one of our Church Secondary Schools. It’s great to have you with us.
The Church of England and joint CofE/Roman Catholic Secondary Schools are among the best in the city. It is good that you are thinking of applying for a place at one of these schools for your child. We wish you well in your application, and we will do everything to support you within the guidelines provided by the schools.
Church Schools operate a points-based application system, considering factors including catchment area and church affiliation. For some schools, an entrance exam can also be taken.
For applications by Church attendance, the criteria are set by the schools and not by individual churches or the Diocese of Liverpool. As a church we are required to apply these honestly and fairly, as follows:
Sunday Worship Attendance
Church schools ask us to assess Sunday Church attendance (OVER THREE YEARS) as either: weekly; three-weekly (on some forms), fortnightly; occasionally. This equates to the following:
Monthly: 12 individual Sunday's attendance
Twice monthly: 23 individual Sunday's attendance
Thrice monthly: 36 individual Sunday's attendance
Weekly: 45 individual Sunday's (minimum) attendance
FROM JANUARY 2018 A REGISTER HAS BEEN TAKEN OF CHILDREN ATTENDING CHURCH SERVICES AND CHILDREN CHURCH.
Some Church schools ask us to assess Church Commitment as either: very strong; strong, reasonable; very little.
We are a very active church and there are lots of ways you can get involved in church life, including helping with Children’s Church, flower, maintenance & gardening teams, Church fairs & events. Details of these are available on the notice board.
Signing up to the ‘Electoral Roll’ (Church membership) is a sign of commitment, as is Baptism and Confirmation (for both adults and children). Confirmation classes run every year.
Twice yearly we host an evening ‘Why Church?’, specifically for parents thinking about Baptism for their children, as well as church school admission.
Unfortunately, the school’s admission process does not take into account attendance at church-base youth organisations (like Boys Brigade or GFS), as these are not church services.
When & how Application Forms are completed
Application forms are normally posted on Church School websites in the early autumn and are to be completed & submitted by parents by the end of October.
Arrangements are made for hard copy of the church admission section to be handed to Annette James in person. These will be completed by Annette & Keith and handed back within a week. The St Hilda's School form is completed online and sent direct to the school by Keith.
Regarding extenuating family circumstances, making schools aware of these is the responsibility of parents/guardians.
Towards the time of applying for a church school place for your child, you will need to meet with the Vicar and one of the wardens. To register yourself and your child please contact:
